Yellow Leaves

(The poet is mourning the passing of a fellow amateur poet and dear friend.)

Yellow leaves
That is what
We all are now

Hanging on to
The dry branch
And hoping that
The next gust
Of autumn wind
Won’t be our last

For once we fall
We shall drift away
Never to see
Each other again

Yellow leaves
We will always have
Green memories
Of our youth’s spring

To inspire us
To hang on
For another day
