Walden

Walden

All my life I’ve been running
From what, to what, I do not know
Every night, tired, I make plans to stay
Every new day I just get up and go

Restless, I scurry from place to place
I search for relief – it stays far away
My emotions keep me company
My troubles follow me along the way

I try to make myself incorporeal
Guided only by the spirits in my head
I try to cross the legendary river
That separates the living from the dead

Pain, like an ever-present shadow
Will forever follow me around
Until we both sink in the darkness
Or my feet are off the ground

Where is it that I was headed
When I started so many years ago
Why is it I that haven’t yet found
My own Walden, as did Thoreau?
