Legacy

What is the legacy of this moment?
That it came by and then it went?

What is the legacy of this heartbeat?
That the heart beats with purpose is just a romantic conceit?

What is the legacy of this breath?
That it will help defer the moment of my death?

What is the legacy of this day, this date?
That I almost made a trick with the hand dealt by Fate?

What is the legacy of this week, month, year?
That my time on earth is short, that my death is now near?

What is the legacy of my time on Earth?
That the time of my death came after the time of my birth?

Thought provoking. For most of us would it not be better to go through life a little less analytically? Else against the vastness of the cosmos we are such insignificant microscopic nits that analyzing further may actually depress us! I feel we should take life a day at a time and forget legacy. Taking things a little lighter makes for an overall happier existence I believe. Smile! God loves you and so do I and a lot of people around you. Of course if you are the next Einstein it may be different for you.

Satish, if this poem conveyed some kind of frustration on my part, that was not the intent. I was simply encouraging myself to think beyond what is happening now, today, this week or this year. If we don’t do that, we simply risk living a life that was bounded by our birth and death, with nothing in between that is of lasting value.
