Count The Ways

At first sight it hit you like a tempest
And you were swept away in its wake
You worshiped the ground she walked on
When she turned away your heart ached

Then came the time for sacrifice
That’s when you realized its true worth
As you faced life’s struggles together
Its allies were humor and mirth

Now you are older and your body is slow
But there’s warmth and comfort anew
Still you feel its ever-present glow
Ever so steadily it has grown within you

It’s been in your heart since your youth
It’s changed but its sweetness stays
You might think you know them all
But love won’t let you count its ways
